Apple Music Karaoke Mode: How to Use Apple Music Sing

Use Apple Music Sing to follow lyrics and adjust vocals on supported songs. Find iPhone, iPad and Apple TV steps and troubleshoot the missing mic button.

In this guide
The short version

Apple Music Sing lets subscribers adjust the vocal level and follow lyrics on supported songs and devices. Open the song's lyrics, tap the mic and move the vocal slider; a missing mic can mean that song is not supported.

Apple Music's karaoke feature is called Apple Music Sing. On a supported iPhone or iPad, play an eligible song in Apple Music, open its lyrics, tap the mic button and move the slider to adjust the original vocals. On a supported Apple TV 4K, open the song's lyrics and select the mic using the remote. You need an Apple Music subscription, a supported device and a song that offers the feature.

Sing is a playback feature inside Apple Music: use it to sing along with the catalog recording. If you need a separate backing file for editing, start with an authorized instrumental or a local recording you have permission to process; a streaming song's playback control is not a standalone export.

What you need

Apple's Apple Music Sing instructions, published September 2026, list an Apple Music subscription and a supported device signed in to the same Apple Account. Its supported-device list includes:

  • iPhone 11 or later, or iPhone SE third generation, updated to the latest iOS.
  • iPad Pro fifth generation or later, iPad Air fourth generation or later, iPad mini sixth generation or later, or iPad ninth generation or later, updated to the latest iPadOS.
  • Apple TV 4K third generation or later, updated to the latest tvOS.

Not every song offers Sing, and Apple Music availability varies by country or region. Check Apple's current list if your device or software differs.

How to use Apple Music karaoke on iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Apple Music app and play a song from its catalog.
  2. Tap the song that is playing to open the player, then tap the Lyrics button.
  3. Tap the mic button if it appears. Drag its slider down to reduce the original vocals or up to bring them back.
  4. Follow the timed lyrics and adjust the vocal level until you have enough guidance. Try another supported song if the mic button is absent.

The slider changes the vocal level for the sing-along; it does not promise that every harmony or vocal effect will disappear. Start playback at a comfortable level and compare the song at different settings.

How to use Apple Music Sing on Apple TV

  1. On a supported Apple TV 4K, open Apple Music and play a song from the catalog.
  2. If timed lyrics do not appear, select Lyrics at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Press Back on the Apple TV Remote and select the mic button.
  4. Swipe up or down on the remote's clickpad to adjust vocals.

Apple also documents using a compatible iPhone as a microphone with Apple Music Sing on Apple TV. That is a separate setup from reducing the original singer; consult Apple's current instructions for the supported setup.

Why is the mic button missing?

CheckWhat to try
Song availabilityTry another Apple Music catalog song. Apple says Sing may not be available for a song even on a supported device.
Device and softwareCompare your exact device generation and OS with Apple's current compatibility list and update where appropriate.
Account and subscriptionConfirm the device is signed in with the Apple Account used for the Apple Music subscription.
Lyrics screenOpen the currently playing song and its Lyrics view before looking for the mic; timed lyrics alone do not establish that the vocal slider is available.
RegionCheck Apple's availability information for your country or region. Feature availability may change.

If the mic is still absent for several songs on a supported, updated device, use Apple's support guidance for the current app and account state rather than relying on a third-party workaround.

Apple Music Sing or a downloadable karaoke backing?

Use Sing when your goal is to follow lyrics and adjust vocals while playing a supported Apple Music song. For an audio file to edit, compare an authorized karaoke instrumental or original multitracks. If you have a separate local MP3, WAV, MP4 or MOV that you have permission to use, Saturalabs Karaoke Maker can test a described vocal separation.

Saturalabs accepts local files up to 50 MiB; it does not import Apple Music streaming links. Describe the singing and audition Background audio for the potential backing. Isolated sound is the estimated vocal. Listen for remaining singing and missing instruments; AI downloads require an account and sufficient credits. The tool produces audio rather than synchronized lyrics. For the next step, see how to make a karaoke video.

Can Apple Music Sing remove vocals completely?

Apple describes the control as adjusting the vocals on supported songs. The audible result can vary by song, so listen to the lowest setting and decide whether it works for your practice. It is not a replacement for a separately licensed instrumental or original multitrack.
