Free tools for your next audio edit
Convert video to MP3. Keep the soundtrack, locally.
Make an MP3 from a supported short MP4 or MOV video on your device. Choose a bitrate, preview the actual audio and download without an account or video upload. This tool does not import video URLs.
Convert MP4 or MOV to MP3
Free · localChoose a supported MP4 or MOV and prepare an audio file. No audio upload or account required.
Video containers can hold multiple streams and codecs; browser decoding determines which audio is read and this tool does not select a track. If conversion fails, use the desktop extraction guide. Audio and video may have offsets; check sync before editing. This tool does not separate voices or music, copy tags/artwork, preserve higher bit depth or source codec padding, remove noise, or isolate sound. Input and output must each fit 50 MiB and five minutes; an oversized output is rejected rather than cut. MP3 is a new lossy encode and may add delay or padding. Encoder credits and source are below.

How to convert video to MP3
- 01 / OPEN
Choose an MP4 or MOV file
Select a local video containing audio, up to 50 MiB and five minutes. The browser reads it on your device. Codec support varies.
- 02 / ENCODE
Choose an MP3 bitrate
MP3 is selected by default. Choose 128, 192 or 320 kbps and prepare the file. The decoded audio must be mono or stereo and the output must also fit 50 MiB.
- 03 / CHECK
Preview and download
Listen to the actual MP3, check its duration and download it. Keep the original video and verify timing if the audio will return to a video edit.
Know your soundtrack
What does the MP3 contain?
The converter decodes the video's soundtrack and makes a new 48 kHz MP3. Speech, music and effects mixed together remain together. It does not extract a specific speaker or instrument. To test a source within the mix, use the separate voice isolator or sound effect extractor; AI downloads require an account and credits.
MP3 is lossy, so a new encode can discard more detail. Codec delay or padding and browser resampling can affect timing. The browser determines which audio stream is decoded; this tool cannot select among multiple streams or copy the original encoded audio. Original metadata is not copied. For a PCM working copy, choose WAV above or use video to WAV.
This page accepts files, not YouTube or other URLs. For a video you uploaded yourself, see the YouTube audio guide for obtaining an available source file. For longer files, stream selection or copying the original encoded stream, compare the desktop extraction methods.
For a MOV video on your device
Convert MOV to MP3
Choose a supported MOV file using the converter above. MP3 is already selected; choose 128, 192 or 320 kbps, prepare the audio, then listen and download it. The selected file and decoded audio must fit the same 50 MiB, five-minute and mono/stereo limits as MP4. MOV is a container, so browser support depends on the codecs in the particular file.
For example, if you exported a short iPhone video as a MOV, save an available local copy and select that file. If the browser cannot decode its audio, use an original compatible export or a desktop method in the extraction guide. The iPhone guide also explains ways to work with a video in Files or iMovie. This converter does not accept a Photos share link.
The result is the decoded soundtrack, not a video or an isolated voice. Keep the MOV and check the MP3's beginning and ending; re-encoding can introduce delay or padding. For precise editing, select WAV instead and compare the actual file against picture.

The optional MP3 download uses lamejs 1.2.1 by Alex Zhukov, a JavaScript port of the LAME MP3 encoder. Its unmodified script is served separately. See the attribution and source notes, upstream license notice, LGPL-3.0 and GPL-3.0 texts, and complete upstream source package.
A few useful answers
Free video to MP3 converter questions
How do I convert a video to MP3?
Choose a compatible MP4 or MOV up to 50 MiB and five minutes, select an MP3 bitrate, then convert, preview and download. The decoded audio must be mono or stereo and the output must also fit 50 MiB.
Can I convert a MOV video to MP3?
Yes, if the browser can decode its audio. Choose a local MOV up to 50 MiB and five minutes, select an MP3 bitrate and prepare the export. The audio must decode to mono or stereo, and the output must fit 50 MiB. Preview it before downloading; the MP3 is a new lossy encode.
Does this converter upload my video?
No. The browser reads and converts the selected local file on your device. Preview and download are free and need no account. Save the MP3 before leaving the page.
Can I paste a YouTube or other video link?
No. Choose a supported video file stored on your device. For your own YouTube upload, the YouTube audio guide explains how to start with an original or available creator download.
Does converting to MP3 remove music or voices?
No. The MP3 contains the soundtrack decoded by the browser, including sounds mixed together. Source isolation is a separate workflow and its AI downloads require an account and credits.
Is the MP3 identical to the original soundtrack?
No. The browser decodes at 48 kHz and creates a new lossy MP3 at 128, 192 or 320 kbps. Re-encoding can discard detail and add delay or padding. Original metadata is not copied.
Why can't my video be converted?
The file may have no audio, use a codec the browser cannot decode, exceed the limits, or contain more than two decoded channels. The browser chooses the audio stream; use a desktop editor for unsupported files or stream selection.
