How to Remove Music from a TikTok Video

Remove a separate music layer before posting, handle music mixed with speech, and understand TikTok's options for muted videos.

In this guide
The short version

Start with the original edit: remove or mute a separate music layer while keeping the voice. If the only file mixes both together, try an isolation test and review the result. TikTok's documented Change sound option applies to certain muted videos, so do not assume it is a general post-editing control.

To remove music from a TikTok video, first find the original video project or a copy before the music was added. If music is a separate layer in your editor, mute or remove that layer and keep the original voice track. Preview and export a new video before posting.

If music and speech are already mixed into one soundtrack, muting the video silences both. You need an original clean voice track or a source-separation attempt, and the result may still contain music or altered words. A TikTok link alone is not a file for Saturalabs' audio tools.

Remove a separate music layer before posting

  1. Open the original project in the editor where the music was added. Keep a copy of the project and original video.
  2. Find the music clip or sound layer and mute or remove it. Leave the video clip's original sound enabled if it contains dialogue you want to keep.
  3. Play a section with speech and check the beginning and ending. If the music remains, it may also be baked into the source video or another layer.
  4. Export a new video, play the exported file and then use the desired upload workflow. Check that the final video contains only sound you intend to publish.

For a CapCut project, the CapCut music-removal guide explains the difference between a separate music layer and a mixed soundtrack. Editor labels and available TikTok controls can change by version and region.

Remove music mixed with a voice

  1. Find a clean source first. An original microphone recording or pre-music video usually preserves more of the wanted speech than estimating it from a completed mix.
  2. Choose a useful test. Include a complete sentence, quiet words and a moment where the music overlaps the voice. Use a local MP4, MOV, MP3 or WAV up to 50 MiB in the music-removal workflow.
  3. Compare the outputs. Describe the background music and review Background audio for the remainder, or describe the spoken voice and review Isolated sound. These are different candidates: one may preserve more ambience while the other focuses on speech.
  4. Listen before downloading. Compare the same words with the original and check for missing syllables, music bleed and unnatural artifacts. AI downloads require an account and sufficient credits; the download dialog shows the cost.
  5. Return the audio to your edit. Import the chosen WAV into a video editor, align it to the original picture and mute the duplicate original soundtrack. Check sync near the start and end, then export and play the resulting video.

Separation produces audio, not a replacement TikTok post or an automatically edited video. It may also remove ambience or effects that were mixed with the music. The audio replacement guide covers alignment and duplicate sound checks.

What if the video is already posted?

Check the controls available on that specific post and account. TikTok documents Change sound for a video it has muted: open the muted video, view details and choose a replacement sound if that option is offered. This is a documented muted-video workflow; it does not establish that every posted video can have any soundtrack removed or edited in place.

If there is no suitable in-app option, prepare a revised copy from the original project and decide how to publish it. A new upload is a separate post; review the video's content and sound before publishing. Use audio you have permission to include.

Common questions

Can I remove music and keep the voice?

If they are separate tracks, remove the music track. From a mixed soundtrack, isolation can estimate the voice or music-free remainder but cannot guarantee that all words and ambience remain unchanged.

No. The workflow requires a supported local file you have permission to use. It does not edit the posted video directly.

Does muting the original video remove only music?

No. It silences the original soundtrack, including speech or effects mixed into it. Check for separate tracks or compare a separation attempt if you need to keep the voice.
