To screen record on iPhone with your voice, open Control Center, touch and hold the Screen Recording button, turn on Microphone and tap Start Recording. After the countdown, record a short test, stop it and play the saved video in Photos.
The microphone captures your voice and nearby sound. Audio playing inside an app is a separate consideration: Apple says some apps may prevent audio or video capture. Test the specific app and do not assume a call, stream or other protected content will be recorded.
Record your screen and voice
- Open Control Center. On current iPhones, swipe down from the top-right corner. If the Screen Recording control is missing, add it to Control Center. Apple's screen recording guide describes adding the control; navigation can vary with model and iOS version.
- Turn on the microphone. Touch and hold the Screen Recording button, then tap Microphone so it is on. This is a separate step from tapping the button to begin a standard screen recording.
- Start a short test. Tap Start Recording and wait for the three-second countdown. Exit Control Center, speak a sentence and perform the action you want to demonstrate.
- Stop and review. Tap the red recording indicator and stop, or reopen Control Center and tap the red Screen Recording control. Open Photos and play the video. Listen to your quietest words and check that the picture includes the intended area.
Apple says screen recordings are saved to the Photos library. In supported versions, find them under Collections → Media Types → Screen Recordings. See its recording instructions for current controls and app restrictions.
Microphone audio versus app audio
| You want | What to do | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Narration | Turn on Microphone before recording. | Your voice is audible in the saved video. |
| Sound from an app | Record a short test of that app. | The app allows capture and its sound is present on playback. |
| Both voice and app sound | Enable the microphone and test both sources together. | Speech is clear, app sound is present and neither dominates. |
| A call or meeting | Use a method explicitly supported by the service and obtain the necessary permissions. | All intended participants are captured where permitted. |
Turning the microphone on does not override an app's recording restrictions. Apple also says screen recording and screen mirroring cannot be used at the same time. If an app's audio is absent, check its supported recording options instead of assuming there is an iPhone setting that will bypass its restrictions.
Why does my recording have no sound?
- Check the saved video. Play it in Photos and raise playback volume. If you hear app audio but no voice, check whether Microphone was on when you started the recording.
- Test the microphone separately. Record a short voice memo and listen back. Apple's microphone troubleshooting guide suggests removing cases or films that block microphone openings and making test recordings.
- Check the app. Try a short recording in an app or screen where recording is permitted. Some apps prevent audio or video capture, and call behavior can vary.
- Make a new test after changes. A microphone switched on later cannot add narration that was never captured in an earlier recording.
Prepare the audio after recording
Keep the original video. If you need an audio-only copy, the video-to-audio converter accepts supported short MP4 or MOV files up to five minutes and 50 MiB, subject to browser and output limits. Save a compatible video file to Files first, then select it and preview the resulting WAV or MP3. It extracts the existing soundtrack as a mix; it does not create independent voice and app tracks.
If a competing sound makes narration difficult to hear, the voice isolator can test a supported file. Compare quiet words with the original: isolation can leave bleed or alter speech. AI downloads require an account and credits. For audio-only recording from the start, see how to record audio on iPhone.
Common questions
Can I screen record with my voice on iPhone?
Yes. Touch and hold Screen Recording in Control Center, turn on Microphone and start the recording. Play the saved video to check the result.
Will an iPhone screen recording capture every call?
No such guarantee is available. Apps can restrict recording, and call behavior differs. Check the service's supported options and obtain any required consent.
Where is the recording saved?
Screen recordings appear in Photos. You can also look under the Screen Recordings media type in supported iOS versions.
