How to Record a Zoom Meeting on iPhone

Start an eligible Zoom cloud recording on iPhone, check host and account requirements, and find or share the recording after processing.

In this guide
The short version

In the Zoom iPhone app, an eligible host or co-host can start a cloud recording from the meeting's Record control. Wait for processing and find it in the host's Zoom web portal. Zoom does not offer its computer-recording option on iOS.

To record a Zoom meeting on iPhone, sign in to the Zoom mobile app, start or join as an eligible host or co-host, and use the meeting's Record → Start Recording control. Stop the recording or end the meeting, wait for processing, and open the host's recordings in the Zoom web portal.

Zoom's mobile recording instructions say this is a cloud recording: its computer-recording option is not available on iOS or Android. Zoom lists an eligible paid account, a licensed host or co-host, and enabled cloud recording among the requirements. Check current account settings and inform participants before recording.

Before the meeting

  • Confirm your account and role. Zoom lists Pro, Business, Education and Enterprise accounts, a licensed user with host or co-host privileges, and cloud recording enabled for mobile cloud recording. Organization settings can restrict access.
  • Check the cloud setting. Sign in to the Zoom web portal and check whether cloud recording is enabled for the relevant account. If the setting is locked or unavailable, ask the account administrator.
  • Agree on recording and access. Tell participants the meeting will be recorded, obtain the agreement required for your situation, and decide who may receive the resulting file or link.
  • Make a test. For an important session, try a short meeting with the same account and device. Speak, listen to another participant, stop the recording and verify the processed result.

Start and stop recording in Zoom on iPhone

  1. Join as host or co-host. Sign in to the Zoom app with the eligible account and start or join the meeting. The toolbar and labels can vary with app version.
  2. Find Record. Tap the meeting controls and choose Record; in some layouts it is under More. Tap Start Recording. Zoom says a recording indicator appears in the meeting.
  3. Check that recording is active. Confirm the indicator and let participants know how the recording will be used. A visible indicator does not replace a later playback check.
  4. Pause or stop when finished. Use the Record control or recording indicator and choose Pause or Stop, confirming when prompted. Ending the meeting also ends the recording.
  5. Wait for processing. Zoom says the cloud recording appears under Recordings in the web portal after the meeting ends and processing completes. Open it and play a quiet speaker, the beginning and the ending.

These steps follow Zoom's iOS and Android instructions and its cloud-recording guide. The second guide shows the More menu in its mobile instructions; use the controls visible in your installed version.

Where is the recording saved?

The meeting is recorded to Zoom's cloud rather than directly to the iPhone's Photos library. After processing, sign in to the Zoom web portal and open Recordings for the host account. Zoom says a recording started by a co-host appears in the host's recordings. If you cannot find it, confirm the host account and wait for processing; ask the host or administrator if you lack access.

Cloud recordings can be viewed, shared or downloaded according to the account's settings and your permissions. Before sharing a link or file, check who can access it and whether the meeting contains information participants did not agree to distribute. If a separate audio copy is needed, inspect the available recording files and confirm the download plays before editing.

Can a participant record on iPhone?

Zoom's mobile cloud-recording instructions require host or co-host privileges for a licensed user with cloud recording enabled. If you are a participant, ask the host to start and share the recording, or discuss whether an eligible co-host arrangement is appropriate. Zoom's desktop computer-recording privileges are a different workflow and should not be assumed to create a local iPhone recording.

Do not assume iPhone Screen Recording will capture every participant's audio. Apple says some apps may prevent audio or video capture; any recording method also needs the participants' agreement and the permissions applicable to the meeting. Check a short authorized test instead of relying on a silent or incomplete file.

Why is the Record control missing?

CheckWhat to do
Account and licenseConfirm that the signed-in user meets Zoom's current mobile cloud-recording requirements.
Meeting roleCheck whether you are the host or co-host; ask the host if you are a participant.
Cloud recording settingCheck the web portal and ask an administrator if the setting is locked or disabled.
Toolbar layoutLook for Record in the meeting controls or under More. App versions and layouts can differ.
Missing processed fileWait for processing and check the host's web-portal recordings, rather than only Photos on the iPhone.

Get a transcript or prepare audio

Zoom's cloud audio-transcript feature has separate account, setting and language requirements. Check whether a transcript was generated with the recording; for a missing transcript or a local file, consider an approved separate method. The Zoom transcription guide explains the distinction and review steps.

Saturalabs does not record Zoom meetings or generate transcripts. After obtaining an authorized supported file, its voice isolator can test a distinct voice against competing sound. Compare quiet words with the original: separation is an estimate and may leave noise or alter speech. AI WAV downloads require an account and sufficient credits.

Common questions

Can a free Zoom account record locally on iPhone?

Zoom says its computer-recording option is not available on iOS. Mobile cloud recording has separate paid-account, license, role and settings requirements; check the host's current options.

Will the recording contain meeting audio?

Zoom cloud recordings can include meeting audio, but the result depends on the meeting and settings. Play the processed recording and check each important speaker rather than relying only on the recording indicator.

Can I record on iPhone without being the host?

Zoom lists eligible host or co-host privileges for mobile cloud recording. Ask the host to start and share it, or discuss an appropriate co-host arrangement.
