Convert WebM to MP3

Free · local

Choose a supported WebM and prepare an audio file. No audio upload or account required.

WebM may contain audio alone or video with audio. Browser decoding determines which audio stream is read; this tool cannot select a track. If conversion fails, try the desktop conversion guide. Check timing before editing. This tool does not separate voices or music, copy tags/artwork, preserve higher bit depth or source codec padding, remove noise, or isolate sound. Input and output must each fit 50 MiB and five minutes; an oversized output is rejected rather than cut. MP3 is a new lossy encode and may add delay or padding. Encoder credits and source are below.

How to convert WebM to MP3

  1. 01 / OPEN

    Choose a WebM file

Select a local WebM containing audio, up to 50 MiB and five minutes. WebM may contain video or audio only. Your browser must support its audio codec.

  2. 02 / CONVERT

    Choose a bitrate

MP3 is selected by default. Pick 128, 192 or 320 kbps and convert. The decoded audio must be mono or stereo; the output must also fit 50 MiB.

  3. 03 / LISTEN

    Preview and download

Listen to the actual MP3, check its length and download it. Keep the WebM original, especially if you need to edit or convert again.

What happens when you convert WebM to MP3?

WebM is a container that can hold video with audio or audio alone. The converter decodes the audio your browser selects and creates a new 48 kHz MP3. It does not include video, separate a voice from music, copy metadata or let you choose between multiple audio streams.

MP3 is lossy. If the WebM already uses lossy audio, another encode can discard more detail; a higher bitrate cannot restore it. Listen to speech, quiet sections and the end. Encoding and browser resampling can affect timing, so check sync if the audio will return to a video edit.

For an editing copy, choose WAV above instead. This creates 16-bit PCM at 44.1 or 48 kHz, without another MP3 encode, but cannot recover detail missing from the original. WAV files may be larger and must fit the 50 MiB output limit.

If a file will not convert

Check the audio and codec

First play the original and check that it contains sound. A WebM extension alone does not guarantee that your browser supports the audio codec. A file with no audio, more than two decoded channels, or a duration or size above the limits cannot be converted here.

For longer recordings, unsupported files or explicit stream selection, try VLC or FFmpeg using the WebM conversion guide. Renaming the extension does not convert a file. This tool accepts local files, not video links.

To work with an MP4 or MOV instead, use the video to MP3 converter. If you want to test isolating a voice from a mixed recording, the separate voice isolator uses AI and its downloads require an account and credits.

MP3 encoder credits

Built with the LAME encoder via lamejs.

The optional MP3 download uses lamejs 1.2.1 by Alex Zhukov, a JavaScript port of the LAME MP3 encoder. Its unmodified script is served separately. See the attribution and source notes, upstream license notice, LGPL-3.0 and GPL-3.0 texts, and complete upstream source package.

A few useful answers

Free WebM to MP3 converter questions

How do I convert WebM to MP3?

Choose a local WebM containing audio, select an MP3 bitrate and convert, preview and download. The input and output must each be at most 50 MiB, the recording no longer than five minutes, and the decoded audio mono or stereo. Browser codec support varies.

Can I convert WebM video to MP3?

Yes, if your browser can decode the audio in the file. The result contains the decoded soundtrack, not the picture. Audio already mixed together stays together.

Does my WebM leave my device?

No. This converter reads and processes the chosen file locally in your browser. Download the result before leaving the page.

Why can't my WebM be converted?

The file may contain no audio, exceed the limits or use a codec the browser cannot decode. For other files or to select a specific audio stream, try a desktop method in the conversion guide.

Does MP3 preserve the original audio exactly?

No. MP3 is a new lossy encode that can discard detail and add delay or padding. Keep the original and compare the result. The original metadata is not copied.

Can I convert WebM to WAV instead?

Yes. Select WAV in the output format menu to produce a 16-bit PCM file at 44.1 or 48 kHz. The same input and output limits apply.
