Convert WebM to WAV

Free · local

Choose a supported WebM and prepare an audio file. No audio upload or account required.

WebM may contain audio alone or video with audio. Browser decoding determines which audio stream is read; this tool cannot select a track. If conversion fails, try the desktop conversion guide. Check timing before editing. This tool does not separate voices or music, copy tags/artwork, preserve higher bit depth or source codec padding, remove noise, or isolate sound. Input and output must each fit 50 MiB and five minutes; an oversized output is rejected rather than cut.

How to convert WebM to WAV

  1. 01 / OPEN

    Choose a WebM file

Select a local audio-only WebM or a WebM video containing audio. The input must fit 50 MiB and be no longer than five minutes. Your browser must support the audio codec.

  2. 02 / PREPARE

    Select a WAV sample rate

WAV is selected by default. Choose 48 kHz for many video workflows or 44.1 kHz if your project needs it. The browser decodes and resamples mono or stereo audio to 16-bit PCM.

  3. 03 / REVIEW

    Preview and download

Listen to the exported WAV and download it. Check the beginning and end, and compare synchronization with the original video if you plan to edit against picture.

What does WebM to WAV conversion do?

WebM is a container, so a file can contain video and audio or audio alone. This tool decodes the audio stream selected by your browser and creates a separate PCM WAV; the video picture is not included. Mixed speech, music and background sounds remain mixed. It does not choose between multiple audio tracks.

The result is resampled to your chosen rate and quantized to 16-bit PCM. It is an editing copy, not a promise of sample-identical conversion. A WAV cannot restore detail already lost in the source. Keep the original WebM, particularly for further exports.

PCM WAV can be much larger than compressed WebM audio. For example, five minutes of stereo 48 kHz, 16-bit PCM is about 54.9 MiB, so it exceeds this tool’s 50 MiB output limit even when the input is smaller. Use the audio file size calculator to plan an export; use a desktop converter for longer or larger files.

Why can’t my WebM be converted?

Confirm the file contains audio and plays in your browser. WebM audio codecs and browser support vary. Files above the input or output limit, recordings longer than five minutes and audio decoded to more than two channels are not supported. Renaming a file does not convert it.

For unsupported codecs, longer files or track selection, use a desktop application such as VLC or FFmpeg. The WebM conversion guide explains desktop tools; choose WAV output in your application and verify its settings. For a smaller listening copy, use WebM to MP3 instead.

After downloading, the WAV file inspector can check the stored sample rate, channel count, duration and actual size. It does not verify sync or compare audio samples.

Built with the LAME encoder via lamejs.

The optional MP3 download uses lamejs 1.2.1 by Alex Zhukov, a JavaScript port of the LAME MP3 encoder. Its unmodified script is served separately. See the attribution and source notes, upstream license notice, LGPL-3.0 and GPL-3.0 texts, and complete upstream source package.

A few useful answers

Free WebM to WAV converter questions

How do I convert WebM to WAV?

Choose a supported local WebM with audio, select 44.1 or 48 kHz, then convert, preview and download the WAV. Input and output must each fit 50 MiB; the recording must be no longer than five minutes and decode to mono or stereo.

Can I extract a WAV from WebM video?

Yes, if your browser can decode its audio. The WAV contains the selected decoded soundtrack and no video. The tool does not select among multiple audio streams or separate mixed sounds.

Does WebM to WAV improve audio quality?

No. WAV is an uncompressed working format, but it cannot recover detail lost in the WebM source. This tool resamples and exports 16-bit PCM, so it does not promise sample-identical conversion.

Why is my WAV larger than the WebM?

PCM WAV stores uncompressed samples while WebM often contains compressed audio. The output may exceed 50 MiB even if the input fits; the converter rejects oversized output instead of cutting it.

Is the file uploaded?

No. Decoding and conversion run locally in your browser. Download the WAV before leaving the page. Codec support depends on your browser.
